Current head of culture of Guardian and Observer takes role as Janine Gibson moves to US to lead GNM's new digital operation
Georgina Henry has been appointed head of Guardian.co.uk following Janine Gibson's move to lead Guardian News & Media's new digital operation in the US.
Henry, presently the head of culture across the Guardian and Observer, will be responsible for all aspects of the website – including mobile and multimedia – except news. GNM also publishes MediaGuardian.co.uk.
She will spearhead the publisher's digital operation from London. Gibson will lead a team based in New York. Stuart Millar, guardian.co.uk news editor, will be deputy editor of the US operation.
Henry joined the Guardian in 1989 as media correspondent and became editor of MediaGuardian a year later. She was deputy editor of the Guardian from 1996 to 2006, when she launched Comment is Free. Henry was appointed head of culture across GNM, which also publishes the Observer, in May 2010.
In an email to staff Alan Rusbridger, the editor-in-chief of GNM, also announced further appointments to the US operation.
Adam Gabbatt will be the Guardian's New York live blogger, Aidan Geary will be going to the US as executive producer, Tim Hill will be the deputy production editor, and Nell Boase will relocate to New York as managing editor.
Matt Wells, guardian.co.uk blogs and networks editor, Guardian senior reporter Karen McVeigh and sports blogs editor Steve Busfield are also relocating to New York.
