Guardian Viral Video Chart: Simon Cowell turns nice and some lip-syncing

This week's top virals include the sensationally annoying Nyan Cat, and a rather cunning pop mashup

Remember Simon Says? Madeon's slick three-minute mashup of "39 songs I like" is pretty impressive stuff, but not as impressive as the machine he's using to mash it all up. You'll have to be pretty on the ball to name every song ... I didn't get past two. Rubbish.

I think Cowell came close to nicking that BBC ad slogan at the end of this trailer for X Factor US, but then we should probably be boycotting the show because of what they did to our Chez. And, indirectly, reuniting her and that toe-rag footballer.

There's a whole heap of hard work in this lip dub video from the gentlefolk at Clark Retirement Community. And why not? Given our past form, it's only a matter of time before the Guardian cracks out a LipDub. Any suggestions for tunes?

1 Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl kicks out at fan (iTunes Festival)
Don't mince your words, Dave.

2 Clark Retirement Community LipDub
Our older friends love a bit of Bublé, and quite rightly so.

3 Trolling Saruman
In which Nick Davies (Aragorn, natch) arrives, with reinforcements, to try and take down James Murdoch from his News Corp tower. A bit.

4 The X Factor - world premiere preview
Cowell's had a humour bypass. "A year's a long time!"

5 Earthquakes goalkeeper David Bingham's unbelievable goal vs West Brom
More luck than skill, I would think. But I'll leave it to better pundits than me.

6 Madeon - pop culture
The mashupper extraordinaire made this from 39 bits of songs.

7 Crazy marriage proposal - guy falls off building
I think that's a pretty horrible way to make your future life partner feel, even if it is for a second. What does that say about their relationship?!

8 2D photography - Rube Goldberg
The folks at this photo studio have 'done a Rube'. It's a been a while since we've seen one this good, and we especially like the improvised contraptions held together with gaffer tape.

9 Harry Potter - a look back
Got something in your eye?

10 Nyan Cat
Some people might not have discovered Nyan Cat yet, in which case I feel duty bound to subject them to at least a few seconds. If you can make it past 30 seconds, you're really doing quite well. That's sort of the point. Like that bit in Dumb & Dumber where Lloyd says "Wanna hear the most annoying sound in the world?" Like that, but in video form. MAKE IT STOP!
